Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Rs 8,000-crore Mahindra and Mahindra group, seems to have become a victim of over-zealous BMC officials.
Recently, the 53-year-old industrialist was issued with a criminal process from the Bhoiwada Magistrate Court, because he happened to be on the board — and in a purely advisory capacity — of M/S MW Com (India) Private Limited.
The media publishing house had failed to put up a signboard outside its office showing the company’s name in Marathi — this, in contravention of the provisions of Bombay Shops and Establishment Act, 1948.
Mahindra’s lawyer and senior counsel Shirish Gupte pointed out that his client was “straightaway made to face criminal action, without ever being asked to pay the fine of Rs 50-500, as stipulated by the Act”.
