About 200 sacked crew members of Jet Airways met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and urged him to get them reinstated.
The MNS chief is reported to have warned the airline of an agitation if the sacked employees are not taken back.
Thackeray’s representatives will meet the Jet Airways management on Thursday.
His support to the sacked crew is seen as an attempt to check mate Shiv Sena which has over the years been controlling unions in the aviation sector.
In recent months, employees of duty-free shops at the airport have also joined MNS while Shiv Sena’s Bharatiya Kamgar Sena is facing problems.
Significantly, Shiv Sena controls a union of Jet Airways employees. “If Raj is successful in taking up the cause of sacked cabin crew, it will enhance his clout and further undermine the Shiv Sena,’’ a political observer remarked.

I saw MNS flags in the celebrations after the reinstation of the jet employees. Now the percentage of maharashtrians could be low in the list. Does this mean MNS is going national?

Yea thats true. But then we can't ignore one point that everyone from such younger age group is attracted by raj thackrey. And they somehow think his methods can get them justice or solution.
On the other hand these all youngster are outsiders, they just need quick solution and they can take help of anybody for that, and they really don't care what the person is fighting for or his objectives.

Of course there is more to it than meets the eye. Only Goel, Mallya, Patel and RT know what deal has been struck behind closed doors. Time will tell... only hope it doesn't turn out to be like the penultimate scene of jaane bhi do yaaron :-)
One other thing, the SS must be really worried now.

Version 1-MNS Version
"I had sent him a message that he should first reinstate the staff, then only will I be in a position to speak to him," Raj said. Maharastra Navnirman Sena on Friday described Jet chairman Naresh Goyal's announcement of reinstating employees as victory of Party Chief Raj Thackeray's tactics.
Version 2-Praful Patel
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Friday said he was happy that 1,900 people got back their jobs in Jet Airways, within a day of his asking the airline's boss to solve the problem."I called the Jet chairman Naresh Goyal yesterday (Thursday) morning to meet me in Hyderabad. . . I had also told him that in 24 hours, we must find a resolution to this problem otherwise we in the ministry would certainly not be very happy with the approach of Jet Airways,"
version 3- Uddhav Thackeray
Jet should know that it is dealing with Shiv Sena. (Chairman) Naresh Goyal is saying he was not aware about the decision to sack the employees. If this is true, those responsible for the decision should be kicked out," party executive president Uddhav Thackeray told PTI in Mumbai.
Version 4-Naresh Goyal Himself
I apologise for the trauma which the sacked employees have gone through in last two days. The company is like my family and so are the employees. As the father of the family, I cannot see unhappy faces. My conscious does not allow me to see my employees worried."

Deadly Manishbhau!!!! :D HAHAHA
I agree don't know what backroom deals have been struck.
But fact about our airline industry is, they can give us low cost fares because they operate on very thin margins. But very thin margins mean that if people stop traveling by air (as they have now, due to bad economy, price rise, higher ticket rates) due to high aviation fuel price, their margins vanish. So what should a company do then?
These are private companies, and hire and fire is the way private companies operate. That is the reason for their efficiency, and that is also the reason why when their margins vanish and losses rise, they have to fire people.
It may even happen that if they keep people, a couple of months down the line, they may suspend operations. Its not a joke. There are some 25 or 30 airline companies around the world that have suspended operations and laid off entire staff in the last six months.
So all this may lead to a bigger crisis. Pray that instead of 1000 people, 10000 may not lose their jobs tomorrow.
Goes for IT companies too. They are getting less projects as US outsourcers dont have enough money now. Their banks are collapsing.

True.. but there really isn't that much difference between the jet employees seeking help of RT and jet owner seeking help of Airlines ministry.
The same champions of goverment non-interference in good weather are now begging the goverment to bail them out when they are hit by rough weather
And from what i have seen/read and seen, owners/higher management always get for themselves a very good severance/termination package + bonuses when the leave or sell the company (case is point is the Lehmann & AIG top management)
If the goverment does use the taxpayers money to help the private companies out then it should be with a hefty interest and guarantees to aid the same taxpayers in the future.. when the weather again becomes good.
Or the goverment can act like an 'efficient' private company itself by buying out the private airlines planes & equipment at cheap prices and using them for their own airlines or leasing them out to foreign airlines at lower costs... or it can buy out the entire company like Kingfisher did to Deccan..and eliminate the competition ;-)

Totally agree about the top management. When privatization makes them money, everyone wants that. When they lose out, they want govt money.
Aviation is such a low margin business, that a small change in occupancy, or oil prices can totally destroy their over-ambitious business models. The industry is bigger than the traffic, and it has to become smaller. That means smaller workforce. They irresponsibly expanded, now they have to pay the price. That means the employees too will suffer.

There is a very good article I read
http://www.business-standard.com/india/storypage.php?autono=337826
It essentially says --
Aviation is such a low margin business, that a small change in occupancy, or oil prices can totally destroy their over-ambitious business models. The industry is bigger than the traffic, and it has to become smaller. That means smaller workforce. They irresponsibly expanded, now they have to pay the price.
