I never agree with Saisuresh Sivaswamy. But he has written an article in rediff which is very detailed, and puts across the point of very well. I think its a good idea to read it, even though I disagree with every point he has to make!

haha .. this article is like toned down version of raj thackrey's speech. Only difference is there are no instructions about any actions (like break shops / shop owners etc) :)
I too don't agree with most of the things. I mean if you find absence of marathi in dadar then there is definately some problem with your observation sir. In dadar they can speak tamil also in marathi accent :)
"Absence of concern" ... yes i totally agree, it is one of the features of what we call "Dadarkar attitude".

While I dont agree with the article, there is one important issue there.
The signboards, less marathi and more Hindi etc is a sign of a larger problem.
Chennai is 1/4th of Mumbai. 95 % of people there are Tamilians. Outsiders are mostly other south indians, who find it very easy to pick up Tamil.
In Mumbai, the Marathi population is now I think 35-40 %.
The language of a city is determined by what most people speak, plus the language of the business classes. the language of money. In Mumbai, business is run by Gujjus, marwaris, panjabis, and then corporates (english).
That is why marathi disappears in many places, and other languages are heard.
Signboards etc are just a symptom.
People speak the language of success and money and power.
If marathi has to get prominence, marathi culture has to become promiment in Mumbai, marathis should get into positions of power and money and corporates.
A plan is needed for that.
Life is now competitive, and from what my marathi friends themselves tell me, maaharashtrians prefer a more relaxed, less competitive lifestyle. Hence the problem.
If that is true, that has to be fixed.

asthipanjar, the way the city is getting heaped from the states of UP and bihar, the percentage of maharashtrians will decrease further. What is worrying is when the influx turns into votebanks and threaten the very existence of maharashtrians.People like Mayawati come here and give slogans like युपी तो झौंकी है. महाराष्ट्र अभी बाकि है. lalu performs chat puja to show his strength in mumbai.Becoming an outsider in your own state is really a very horrible thought.Thats why raj thackeray is seen as a hope.Even if his intentions are political, they gives a ray of hope.I would not support his deeds in damaging the infrastructure, of the very city he is fighting for.But some sort of fear has to be there which helps curb the migration.
P.S. The help which the centre has given to flood affected bihar would all be gobbled by their state politicians & will thrust the poor people towards mumbai...in search of work and food.Nothing wrong in supoprting our country men in the difficult times..until they threaten to support the same people who ditched them in difficult times.

Bihar and parts of UP are reeling under major problems of floods. laloo is all smiles hoping of his comeback after his opponent nitish drowns politically. better that laloo, mulayam, mayawati, amar etc all focus on the problems of the people in their states and leave the netas of maharashtra to deal with the problem of droughts here
