An anti-reservation essay published in the students’ magazine of an Andheri college has drawn strong criticism from a section of the institution’s faculty.
Teachers from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan-run Sardar Patel College of Engineering (SPCE) and Sardar Patel Institute of Technology (SPIT) have asked the college management to take punitive action against the faculty members who allowed the article to be published.
The satirical essay, written by a third-year electrical engineering student, appeared in the annual issue of Disha. The article said that reserving seats in educational institutions for members of particular castes rewarded under-achievers and “robbed” other students of academic opportunities.
