Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray isn’t the only one in Maharashtra trying to promote the use of Marathi. The state government has secured a proud position for the language at one of the country’s most prestigious universities, which will soon start a chair in Marathi.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi recently proposed to institute a chair for the promotion of Marathi and research on the language.

The Maharashtra government’s higher and technical education department then promptly committed to a Rs 5.5 crore grant, by way of a government resolution issued on August 29.
