Seven textiles mills in the city which were declared defunct one by one over the past 10 years and which saw thousands of mill workers lose their only source of livelihood are all set for a grand revival.

The Union Textile Ministry has decided to modernise these mills with foreign joint ventures and restart them as new.

This is great news for mill workers who had suddenly been left jobless when the mills - New City Mill at Byculla, Apollo at Parel, Gold Mohur at Dadar, India United Number One at Kalachowkie, Poddar Mill at N M Joshi Marg, Tata Mill at Parel and Finley at Lalbaug - had closed down.

According to the plan, family members of the jobless mill workers will the absorbed once the mills restart. The unskilled among them will be provided training.
