For the past few days, some Mumbaikars are waking up to find young Maharashtrian men supplying milk at their doorstep instead of the traditional milkmen from Uttar Pradesh.
The change has been forced by Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), as part of a new strategy in its campaign against migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The aim is to get Maharashtrians to enter professions and trades dominated by migrants from these two north Indian states and slowly reclaim them.

This is what They should have done from day one.
I personally feel they should start Pro-Marathi or Pro-maharastrains Campign and not Anti-Bihari Campaign.
I personally feel ANTI-SOMETHING is always a failure. It never works.
Today I saw many circulars on walls at CST station by MNS .There was so much crowd gathered to read it.Something addressed to marathis :(I didnot get chance to read that.

back to the doodhwala...
question we should ask ourselves...
We have a problem with migrants only at the doodhwala level / taxiwala level?
Are we doing great in all middle and high level professions? Maharashtrians are all fine in IT, business, manufacuring sector middle class and above careers, and our only real problem in jobs is at the bottom of the ladder?

I guess when it comes to starting smthing for selfemployment Marathis are little Skeptical. As for marathis Security is more imp.I can see that this mentality is changing in todays youth but they dont have support from home also. They are more comfortable with sm 9 to 6 jobs investing in LIC,NSC etc.
Risk-taking feature is absent in us I agree which is not a case with people from other community.
Secondly I feel with biharis being less educated they r ok with any kind of Income generating job or business. They can have a tea stall, can sale diaries , have a chat counter anything.Thats not case with a marathi youth. He is normally graduate so obviously he wants a job which suits his qualification.

thats interesting... maharahstrians have one of the most dynamic cities in the world in their state. People come to that city as paupers, and leave as millionnaires. But a lot of Maharahtrians preferred to look to govt jobs instead of attacking the chances the city gave them...
But it is changing extremely fast too. Marathi boys and girls in IT are as dynamic as anyone else. And I think they are finally getting out of the govt-job ka comfort zone... and moving into competitive jobs that may not give security but gives good money and career.
if more maharshtrians become competitive and professional like the marathi boys (and girls) in IT, they will not be worried about ruling the city - they will be plotting to rule the world!

Vikasjee, being pro-someone not always means being anti-someone else. Because I feel Its about how and where are we investing our energies.
The magic of being pro-smthing is putting lot of positive effort in eradicating the real problem. you real dont have to worry abt anti-elements here but still get the same result which u want.so just focus on what we want.
But when we say Anti-smthing I feel we indirectly or without knwing makes that subject even more popular then it was which we actually want to avoid.
Like here we become anti-biharis tell me how is it going to help marathi. Why we are giving biharis so much attention?
1)What is state of marathi schools today in City? The teachers themselves cannot talk proper marathi here forgot abt other things.
Being anti-biharis you can force biharis out if Mumbai by beating them. But can you force Marathi families to send their childrens in Marathi Schools?
Being Pro-Marathi I meant why cannot we increase teaching standards in marathi schools to ensure that they donot lack in competition with english medium schools.
2) Normally doodhwala, istari wala,Chat wala etc. are bhiharis why? If marathi start setting up there own business here there will no scope for this people. Then talking about recruitment in govt sectors like railway etc. Parties like MNS should come ahead and see to it that they help in recruitment procedure the way there are doing it now in nasik and all for factories or even this above news regarding Doodhwalas.
3) Now When a marathi sells a flat he sells it to a bhaiya or a gujju as they are in position to pay more which is a fact. Marathis normally being Job-oriented cannot afford. So now tell me if you are in this position will you say it is ok if I get 3-4 lakhs less but I will sell it to a marathi only? No you will sell it to one who is ready to pay more.
See its a team work.see if this cycle continues we need not be anti anybody but it will help to secure our places in marathi. They are ample oppurtunities in Mumbai. If you are not taking it some else might take it and we cannot stop that.
I do support issue raised by Raj Thackrey entirely. But there are 2 different things. 1) Migration problem 2) Issue of mee marathi and they are entirely different. It needs lot of collective effort from govt and common people like us.

Well said, funaholic. CLAP CLAP!! :-)
I agree partly with vikas' point though - sometimes pro-someone is anti-someone else. It happens like that. But I will basically say its a choice.
I believe there is enough jobs - top class jobs - in Mumbai itself for Maharashtrians. But for that, one needs focus and determination. I have seen Maharashtrians who try hard easily doing very well in their career. And their numbers are going up too. There are more Maharashtrians in IT than ever before, as an example.

Dear Asthipanjar, Funaholic:
Most Maharashtrians I have talked to have agreed that this is true - culturally Marathis prefer govt jobs.
So while thats what they want, thats not whats available. So that explains your percentages above, doesn't it?
(Its changing, IT is one area they have become comfortable with. Compapred t most other professions, in IT there are a lotmore Maharashtrians inMumbai)...
Asthipanjar...if Maharashtrians had a proclivitiy to government jobs, why isn't every government job in India occupied by them? Why is it in all states you find 100 % locals in government jobs?
Why? So therefore, if we want only government jobs, then why are people in other states doing government jobs? Assuming they do not want govt jobs, who does the government jobs in their state? Who? Maharashtrians?
There are around 70 million Maharashtrians and 500,000 govt servants. If Marathis have an inclination to government jobs, then why is it:
That you find most people in Central PSUs are NIndians/South Indians
IAS/IPS same story
Central organizations in Delhi and elsewhere which are under the Central government are Bengalis and Keralites.
All these are government jobs. So why are these communities doing them? If only we have the cultural inclination to govt jobs, why are all the above jobs occupied by these communities?
IAS/IPS-these are pukka govt jobs. With our cultural inclination for such jobs, shouldn't they all be Marathis?
Hence, your arguements are flawed.
The arguement is as follows: All government jobs in Maharashtra are occupied by Maharashtrians. Ergo, Maharashtrians want govenrment jobs.
This logic is even more applicable to neighbouring states where the number of such government servants is much bigger. BTW, if they don't want government jobs in other states, why do they study so desperately for them? And to the point: who does the government jobs in their states? Maharashtrians?
Logically, if the number of people who want to be in a sector is more, there will be more such people employed in that sector. Hence, if MH has low levels of govt employment-then it means that Maharashtrians are taking up other opportunities and negates the government jobs theory.
BTW, the reason why other communties do not take govt jobs in MH is ebcause they CAN'T, not the DON'T WANT TO.
If you allow all non-Marathis jobs in government, the whole of North and South India will come to Maharashtra looking for a job in government. The real reason the Biharis don't look for goverment jobs in MH is because they CAN'T. Given a chance, the WHOLE OF BIHAR will come. Just give them a chance.
It is laughable to suppose that 7.5 crores Maharashtrians are runnign after governemnt jobs. What are they doing in the interim? How are they sustaining themselves? In what manner?
If people from other states didn't want government jobs-
then IAS/IPS-who does them?
then Central PSU-who does them?
Central organizations-who does the jobs?
These are ALL government jobs!
Funaholic, if you were a Bengali, even if you get less, you would sold it to a Bengali. From my own experience, I was willing to buy a flat in PUNE from a Gujju. The other Gujju was paying LESS. I found out later. He still sold it to a Gujju.
A Malayali I know always goes 5 km out of his way to buy groceries from a fellow Malayali, even though prieces are the same in every way. Any other community would have unthinkingly sold their flats to a member of their community, even if they get less. We do not-we think only in terms of money.
And that is where we lose out.

Being pro-someone always means eventually meaning anti-someone else. The world has scare resources. Therefore, the pie is small. In a country like ours, this is even more true. Because the pie itself is small, giving more food to someone means being pro-someone. But even then, that extra helping means less food for someone else. Why? Because the pie itself is limited. Whenever more benefits are given to X, it means less to Y. Unless you increase the pie itself-and even then, it will mean the inequality will persist. Hence, giving preference to someone means negetive to someone else.
The world works this way. You cannot do something which is 100 % good, there is always some bad point or points.
Furthermore, the crux of the issue is really this:
If all other local people get preference in everything in their states, why don't Maharashtrians get preference in MH?
If other communities enjoy privelages and reservations in their own states, why don't Maharashtrians enjoy the exact same thing in MH? Why are they being asked to compete with migrants when no other set of locals are being asked to?
WOuld these locals cope if they had to compete with migrants in their states?
Would these migrants cope if privelages and lingusitc quotas and lingusitic nepotism which they do is taken-especially the lingusitic nepotisim?
The lingusitic minority quota in colleges-can they compete on 100 % of the seats?
So why only ask and force Maharashtrians in MH to compete? What about migrants and all the quotas they enjoy in their states and in our states? Why can't we get rid of their quotas as well and then genuinely compete with them?
Why can't other states get rid of their quotas for locals in their states and allow Maharashtrians full chance to compete for them? Why can't Maharashtrians compete for 100 % of the seats in TN,AP, KL, KA, MP, PJ, HR, HP-why is it there that seats are totally reserved for locals?
So we must bend over backwards and face competition by everyone else, but everyone else will close their states to us by reserving all to locals BUT we must not behave in our state the way THEY DO IN THEIR STATES.
You call this FAIR COMPETITION???!!!
