* Muslims desecrate three Ganesh Idols &there have been attacks on Hindus at many places in Miraj (Dist. Sangali).
* Reason for Riot is the scene erected which depicts the slaying of Afzhal Khan.
* Muslims attacked the Police with sticks & stones.
* The Police arrested the Shiv Sena & other Pro-Hindu leaders stating the reason as being violation of the ‘Code of conduct’.
* One Tata Sumo of the Police, one Tata Indica of a citizen & another four wheeler were damaged by the rioting Muslims.
* The Police threatened Hindus who were not ready for Ganesh Idol Immersion due to Idol desecration.

* 'Bandh' in Sangali continued even on the 2nd day.
* All Hindus including Hindu women were silently taking out a protest march but the Police stopped them and started beating them mercilessly. Even women were not spared.
* Ganesh Mandals refused to immerse Idols until the scene of Afzhal Khan’s killing was erected again.
* Muslim ladies in the surrounding areas left their homes one day prior to the riots.
* The Police arrested four Hindus and mercilessly beat those who were stoning the Hotel and at the same time they just arrest the Muslim coming out from the Hotel with a 'Koyta' (a type of heavy knife used to break coconuts)

Miraj Riots: Muslims start riots even in Sangali

Sangali (Maharashtra): Reverberations of riots that took place in Miraj were heard on a large scale even in the various districts of Sangali since last night. People were discussing an incident involving some damage caused to a mosque in Gawali lane. Fanatic Muslims started riots when they heard about the so-called damage. (Muslims start riots only upon hearsay about the damage to a mosque, whereas Hindus keep quiet even if there are incidents of breaking of Idols at a number of places! – Editor SP) Muslims damaged the two-wheelers owned by Vishnu Kushte and Upadhye.
In the morning as Hindus realized the damage caused to the vehicles, they too gathered in large numbers. At 9.00 a.m., the Police attacked Hindus at Gawali Lane. (When Muslims are roaming freely on the roads rioting, the Police hide in their stations but as soon as Hindus come together to retaliate, the Police bravely take out their ‘lathis’. Had the Police taken timely action against the fanatic Muslims, there would have been no need for Hindus to come out onto the roads! – Editor SP) Hindus replied with the pelting of stones. Hindus raised slogans of ‘Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji’ while carrying saffron flags. In the afternoon, the Police opened tear gas shells to disperse the crowd of Hindus gathered at Navbharat Chowk.
MNS leader Nitin Shinde arrested
This morning, Mr. Nitin Shinde, a MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) leader had gone to Gawali Lane to give directions to the Hindus when some miscreants tried to attack Mr. Shinde. He tried to retaliate. As the Police got to know of the incident, they arrived on the spot and took Mr. Shinde, advocate Swati Shinde and Amar Padalkar into custody. (The Police are picking up only pro-Hindu leaders. Hindus get scared when their leaders are arrested; but this is not the case with the Muslims. Now, every Hindu is being called upon to become a Hindu leader ! – Editor SP)
