In 1989, when the Kashmir valley started burning, every attack by militants and a counter-offensive by Indian forces made front-page news across the country.
Nineteen years on, the death of one or two militants or a handful of soldiers in an encounter is no longer highlighted a great deal, unless of course the number of victims is spectacularly high.

'Theirs not to reason why, Theirs just to do and die'
No politicians lobbying for them nor media running any polls for these guys. Just Vir Chakras for them. To qualify for the medals the minimum condition is that they must be severly wounded or preferably dead - 'Shaheed'
The highest honor, the Paramvir Chakra, is to be collected by the widow or the parents of the slain soldier at the republic day ceremony where the military shows it's might (?) and the politicians show off their security.
India is truly a one of the greatest countries in the world.
We have been fighting external and internal wars for more than 20 years and yet it least bothers us or hurts us.
The economy is growing at 9-10 %, the sensex is rising, we play cricket round the year (lots of it with Pakistan), we debate whether valentines day is a good or bad influence..

Thats the last emotion a soldier would expect for himself.Be pitied.Buts thats how it is in reality.Tragic and pitiful.Indian government does so much expenditure on defense but cant get a scout working on the field a proper clothing to survive the extreme conditions.
Is it only about getting big deals in High Tech Equipments, what about the jawans using them..Dont they deserve better?

Wonder what the Jawans facing death in J&K must be thinking about after reading reports about Mumbai situation.
Will they be wondering why on earth are they freezing their balls off patrolling in a state where the locals dont want them around..
Will they be wondering whether they are protecting the right state..
Will they be thinking 'Lets first secure the borders of our home states then we can think of securing the borders of the country'..
Will they even be wondering which country are they fighting (and dying) for anyway ?
We may or may not be the world's greatest country but we sure are the world's most puzzling.
