The nodal planning agency Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has already admitted that the 135 road accidents and three deaths on the Eastern Express Highway recently were caused due to vehicles skidding on smooth mastic asphalt roads, yet the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is determined to go ahead with the material for roads in the city.
The civic body has said it will use Rs 18 crore worth of mastic asphalt for roads in wards A and D, but corporators are equally determined to see that the proposal is not passed, saying the BMC should not play with people’s lives.
