The proposal,tabled before a high court-appointed committee on Thursday suggested covering the 1.2-km stretch of the Chowpatty with wire ropes. We get regular security alerts. But members of the committee, which was formed following a public interest litigation against encroachments on the beach, held back the plan temporarily. The beach is a well-known tourist spot where thousands of tourists come every day. Putting up the fence will spoil the beach and obstruct the view of the sea. It will also restrict the use of the beach for the public, said a member.
