A 42-year-old medical salesman was sentenced to seven days’ simple imprisonment by a railway court in Virar for crossing the railway tracks at Vasai.
Prakash Pathak becomes the first person to be imprisoned for a period as long as a week by Western Railway even though the law permits a trespasser to be imprisoned for up to six months. Pathak was sentenced under Section 147 of the Railway Act and is now cooling his heels at the Central Jail in Thane.
The incident occurred at 7.15 pm last Wednesday. Officials said Pathak was returning home when he was caught but was released on a bail of Rs 1,000 the same day. He was asked to be present at the railway court on Thursday, when he was given his sentence.

Railways have to provide FOB so as to enable passengers to use it. On many stations the FOB are not adequate and the commuter compel to cross the railway line. The railways are also answerable to thie problem

Nearly 3 years ago, i was arrested by railway police at churchgate station while trying to cross from platform no 2 to platform no 1. This was during the morning peak hours when there is a frenzy to catch the bus from the rear end of the churchgate station. The comforting part of the arrest was that i had ample company. The police constables waited till the count reached 15 or 16 and then decide to cash in. All the wannabe olympians were paraded from the marine drive end to the Main Office near churchgate ticket counter.
Cut two.. Railway Police constables made sure no one sneaked out from the rush at churchgate station and deposited us in the office. The main guy of that office pretending to be busy wasted nearly 20 mins until we all were heard. After a lot of commotion we were asked to pay an official fine, but there was a catch. In order to do that we would have to wait atleast for an hour till the process could be completed. The constable who caught us then brokered a deal on behalf of the officer. Finally i was let of the hook for 300 rs and missed the office muster by 40 mins.

27June09. at Nalasopara, there is only one staircase and that too at the virar end.The other 2 staircases are under construction for last 7/8 MONTHS !!During rush hours; if everybody will use staircase, then you can not think how much time it will take to change platform/ west/east side.I have seen that at Thane, work of platform no 1 completed within a month or so but at sopara it may take a year or so !! Also, the height of platform is too low to alight/get in to the local;especially for ladies and sr citizen, handicapped.
