Thank you all those, who responded to my article on Open letter to Raj Thackeray. I have following to offer as suggestions after reading thru most of the feedbacks and current endeavours of what Raj is doing last 6 months and follwing are suggestions for Raj and all marathi's who speak marathi as a mother toungue.
1. While Raj and /or the shive sena no doubt is the guardian of Marathi Asmita in Mumbai and no issues on that point and we respect the Thackerays for that only. Some important battles on identity of Marathi people have to be fought and that has to be done like the sign boards issue on shops and establishment thru political means.
However will a political struggle only help or street fights only help is the issue? Some friends like Mr Bankar pointed out how they were isolated in few business transactions by gUJJU'S in Mumbai !! I exactly want to catch that point.
Yes, i do agree and thats what i have written in my earlier articles in this forum of Marathi katta, that other communities are more organised and more clannish than we are . However what happens there is "Mobilisation" and what happens with us is that "Mobs" gather and then disperse after stones are thrown and the Sena's and Raj's make their seats in assembly or BMC. One biggest differentiation between marathi togetherness which welcomly gets displayed only sometimes on streets, is that other people mobilise their community so well that they dont have to come to streets !!
Hence just like the swadeshi movement we need to follow certain golden rules for Advantage Marathi Movement !!
1. Never criticise marathi folks in Public especially those with whom you work in the office or do business with even if the relation has got up's and down's. each one of us could have done this in the past and hence start today to practise this habit which will bring that culture of togetherness.
2. Always give jobs to marathi folks at all levels. If you dont find a good candidate advertise thru your family and friends and get one. dont hire other communities and promote them. This is what everyone in other communities is doing today. Marathi's get jobs at higher levels only thru sheer merit alone. Else no one takes them at higher levels. You find this in all companies and especially which have south indian or bengali leadership. Also you will find a trend that even if a Marathi is taken at higher levels other community folks weave their circle around such person and ensure that thru him they prosper their community.
3. Dont think of going ahead of other marathi's only, think of beating the Ambani's and the Mittal's !! if you are doing business. Think Big... dont think i will become a DSkulkarni if your are a builder and have more wealth than him. Think of becoming DLF...and beating Raheja's and Ansals.
4. If you are doing a small business dont hurry to wind it up after receiving a few jolts. Beg, Borrow and steal but persevere. Look what Narayan murthy did, he formed a business model which no Gujju or MARWARI could do it !! hence learn from good things of others even if they dont belong to our community. Even they had to work hard for 12 years to see first success and almost 16-18 years to become a big brand.
5. Biggest and most important disease of Marathi people- Shun the crab mentality of making a small gain of putting the other fellow down and scoring a few brownie points. Always think that yes if kulkarni becomes a big man, may be i ranade or a deshmukh can also become by allowing him to reach that position. espeically this crab mentality is more amonst rich and successful marathi's where after getting say about 5-10 crores they start themselves telling- i dont have that mahrashtrian mentality..etc. etc... what bigger misfortune can our community have ???
7. Always Travel thru our community travel agents like KESARI OR RAJA RANI. dont travel thru SOTC or Raj travels. I dont have a personal interest here, just giving examples of a few marathi sign boards well known in mumbai. If you have to purchase compass box for your kids , purchase camlin or camel as that brand was owned by Dandekars !!
8. Now this is only for professionals who keep working under Non Marathi managesments for years in Mumbai, Travel by local train and end up with the same sob story that our fathers generation had , that to become a shetji or a big saheb you need to be lucky !! Yes, it is a fact that as Mr BANKAR pointed out that there is a organised and a silent Boycott of Marathis and people want to ensure that our people dont become big in Mumbai except few who become thru Politics like Raj and Bal thackeray's. Also dont think, if no Mumbai/Pune then only USA or Dubai. Look at India and see how other cities are coming up. If things are not working for you in Mumbai or Pune, get a good opportunity in Other cities and go there and dominate. Dont get dominated and travel whole life by Local trains,is my mantra. Also when you are outside , and if your salary uis good, dont forget to purchase a property inMumbai or Pune and ensure that we remain the landlords of maharashtra.
9. Lastly, ensure that you also watch marathi channels, marathi movies and plays, teach your children stories of Shivaji and the peshwa's and make them more smarter than Gujju, sindhi and punjabi kids who get that bindass attitute becoz of the culture which prevails in theirhomes.
Remember we once ruled India and all these communities were our ghulam's. Hence let us Repeat HISTORY.
i SANDEEP DESHPANDE, thank you as a Proud Marathi for starting to make History and Change Happen in the next 4-5 years. JAI MAHARASHTRA !!

Basic lessons of getting united, progressive, aggressive - are well framed and well described in points. Full marks to your article.
A very impressive start "Never criticise marathi folks in Public especially those with whom ..." I agree to this.
We must start supporting each other and create our own lobby.
Support grow Maharashtra with Marathi Manoos, not by violence but by virtue.
We'll definitely bring out the change and repeat the history once again, given if we communicate and act on these issues with help of each other.
Last but not the least, Never forget we are Indians, Respect others when we are in their states, this is our Marathi culture, let the whole India prosper along with us. And don't let anyone rule us in our own homeland.
People have started blaming that Marathi people are keeping mute in Raj case and (supporting break Indian Unity) prove them false whenever you get an opportunity. We are Indians same like Tamils, UPites, Punjabi ...etc, but we can't afford lose our culture to them. If they can maintain their culture and language even we can, at the same time contributing to the nation in getting a prosperous future.
Jai Hind,Jai Maharashtra.

I agree with the general sentiments in the letter. Some of the specific steps are not very practical, because people are lazy often.
I would also add - give children a very good education. Make sure the become very good at marathi and english. Marathi education is important for a connection to local culture, or tomorrow you will find they have become disconnected. English education is critical now to prosper in any field, and even more so entrepreneurship.
Improve their social skills. All kids now learn music, sports, leadership and public speaking skills - very important not just for jobs but for everything in life.
Observe other communities and people, pick what is good, reject what is bad.
Punish politicians for poor performance. Dont bother if the other politician is equally bad, more important is to punish the man who does not do his job. Remember you have an MLA, counsellor and an MP. All are responsible for what is messed up in your area. If they dont do their job, make sure their opponent wins. They will learn their lesson in just one election. (in delhi, residents associations do this successfully, if an MLA doesnt do his job in an area, all members of the association vote against him. they know it and try their level best.)

Good points.
It can work extremely effectively and faster than we think it will IF there is an organized movement to make it happen.
Such a mass movement happened over past 2-3 years to revive the marathi cinema and theater. It was not overtly visible but it was there simmering just under the surface. There was no leader for the movement.. perhaps that is why it succeeded so well..who knows.. but succeed it did
Now an even more committed movement is required to bring up marathi business and commerce

The Indian psyche has always been generalistic, childish and easily led. Which is why our history is replete with thousands of examples of war, fights and strifes based on religious, parochial or divisive agendas. The process is simple (now still simpler due to the easy media access of destructive agenda) - espouse a parochial cause, show various injustices and deprivation of groups and link them to the doings of the "other", create a hate campaign by targetting innocent and vulnerable targets and lead a small but hate-filled group to create a media-savvy event (like breaking of taxi glass, burning some tyres or empty buses) and become a hero of that community / religion.
The more backward a community, the more chances of a strident leadership getting support. For example if there is a moderate muslim leadership - it stands no chance of mass support, now if someone talks moderately for marathi interest - he does not have any chance of being heard or followed, if a Hindu leadership spoke about conversion in a moderate and conciliatory voice- he will be sidelined. Therefore the lesson is to get more and more aggressive, violent and get symbolic victories to become popular. Add the vote and note politicking and we have a powder keg ready.
We are probably the most divisive people - divided on religion, state, region, language, rich-poor, english speaking - non english speaking, mumbai city - suburbs, westernised - indianised, you name it, we have it. Generalization about others, denigrating them (ghati, bhangis etc) are tools of our conversations and thoughts.
Some of the product of the above are Balasaheb, Raj Thackeray, Abu Azmi, Amar Singh, Mulayam singh, Imam, Pravin Togadia, Mayawati, Bajrang Dal, Maoists, Naxalites. Use injustices (and there are millions of it in a poor nation like india), Reinforce stereotypes, search for innocent targets, use media by symbolic, dramatic violence and become a partisan hero. No wonder the British found "divide and rule" so easy to operate here.
Love
