My Fav. Ratra Aarambh, Chaukat Raja, in fact all movies of Dilip Prabhavalkar.
"jait re jait" is my all time favourite Marathi movie. A well-made Art film which is the milestone of our Marathi cinema.
I agree with limin. I like old movies. Specially picturised on Shivaji and directed my Dada Saheb Phalke, Bhalji Phendarkar. I also like Dada Kondke's movies.
'Jait Re Jait' can definately be considered the top notch Marathi Movie of all times for its superb music , an engrossing story line and superlative performance by Mohan Agashe. 'Mother India' is my favorite as the best indian movie of all time
hey guys i dont know... u know this or not, but have you seen "sant Gyaneshwar", one of the best marathi movie at their time produced by prabhat film in 1940, one of the best fiture film.......
My all time favourite is jait re jait ... and my fav. actress is archana joglekar (i know quite a few will hate her). From the older cinema's i liked shyamchi aai most.
I loved (and still do ??!!??) Smita Patil .... what a terrific actress ...absolutely brilliant. It might surprise some to know that she has such a cult following even in non-marathi audiences !! A huge number of my south-indian and Gujju friends claim to love her movies... I wonder if she acted in non-marathi and non-hindi movies too :-) As for male marathi actors there are too many .... Dr. Shriraam Lagoo, Mohan Agashe, Vikam Gokhale, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Mohan Gokhale... like i said just too many. But one marathi actor i have always been fascinated about has been Nilu Phule... it was always great fun to watch him.... even when he was thoroughly wasted as a stereotypical villain in so many movies.
Yes. "Jait re Jait" was one exceptional movie (awesome music too). Also how about "Umbharta"... . and "Shyamchi Aayi" .... it features in the top 5 marathi movies of most marathi artistes. I also partly remember one movie in which members of a drama company perform trials for a courtroom play. Turns out that a real crime is exposed during their practise sessions. Featured a lot of talented performers. I remember Sulbha Deshpande and Arvind Deshpande. Maybe Nilu Phule was there as well. Anybody know its name ? Have been trying to get hold of it for a long time now :-)

Yea thats it .... Damn how could i forget a gem like that one. And why don't television channels show such class movies ? I think they should serve as inspirations for current Marathi filmakers ... especially now that even hinglish audiences have started appreciating "hatke" movies :-)
Are you all noticing new movies, some of them are really brilliant. Like Cauthi F, Bungarwadi, Pak Pak Pakak ... i guess good movies can still be made, lots of talented actors around .. but still not enough good movies.
Yes, Pak pak pakaak is a nice movie. But I feel second half could have better. Dhipaani dhipaak song is too good, brilliant lyrics

Archana Joglekar is not very famous in movies actually. She is the lead actress in movie called "nivdung" with lalan sarang. She looks beautifull in the movie, you can search her pics on google.
She has retired from movies after she got married, Now she stays in US takes tutions for classical dances.

Yes SHWAAS is a very nice movie and i think we all who r marathi's and says mi Marathi should watch Marathi movies in theater and i have noticed that Punekar's r doing this and that is the one place where Marathi is still alive but don't know how long since IT industry is booming there many people from outside places r migrating there
shwaas,bindhaast,agabai arrechya are the marathi movies i liked.in shwaas i liked especially the last scene it is too emotional.hats off to that kid.can anybody tell me about 'shantata court chalu ahe'.
Hi i am new to this forum. Though a sikh by birth, i am totally into Marathi Movies. After Starwold the only channel i see is Zee Talkies. I absolutely love the Marathi movies. Though i love most of the movies shown, one great movie i saw in the recent times was "Not only Mrs. Raut."
Not only Mrs. Raut was a one of complex movies i have ever seen, great performance by vikram gokhle as always.
