Even I think on similar lines as Kiran. A person of the caliber of Smita Patil would never have chosed to act in Balaji Serials. Infact I feel had she been still alive she would have preferred to work directors like Sudhir Mishra ( Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi, Hazaron Khawishay Aisi) and Nagesh Kuknoor ( Dor, Hyderabad Blues).

I agree that both apples and mangoes are fruits but then they are two different fruits from different parts of the earth and have completely different tastes. Same applies to Hollywood and the Indian film industry. Both are different, both have a different geographical origin, both represent a different sect of people. Iam trying to search hard. I couldn't find any plays (hindi or marathi) done by smita patil. If this is true then its a very surprising fact ... at least for me.
Smita patil died at the age of 31, Meena Kumari died at 40, madhubala at 36 .. monroe also died early don't know the age. Lots of great artists died young .. or most of the people who died young were great artists.
Marilyn Monroe died/killed at the age of 36. Basically its human tendency to make a person even more famous: if they die an un-natural death. Anyways Kiran just wants us to speak more on this site thats why he is talking like "Navjot Singh Sidhu" . We all should BAN HIM from his own site :)

Other Dramas produced by this unit was Our Famous “Tee Phoolarani” adapted and directed by Late P. L. Deshpande and acted by Satish Dubhashi and Bhakti Barve.
“Kanyadaan” written by Vijay Tendulkar, directed by Sadashiv Amrapurkar. The caste of the play were Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Suhas Joshi.

This is what Behram Contractor once written about smita patil ........
I met her only twice, maybe three times, just fleeting view. Once she range me up, very matter of fact, it had something to do with the Women's Centre, an organisation for the protection of exploited women. One of her films was to be premiered in aid of the centre and she wanted a plug for it. She came on the line, said it was Smita Patil and said her piece. It was later that I realised it was the Smita Patil actress.
And once I met her at Bunny Reuben's house. She came late, left early, not because she was a star, but because she had been working and had to get up early in the morning and start working again.
She did not look like a star, the sari casually tucked in, the hair unfussed over, the studio make-up- removed, but not replaced with street make-up.
But the meetings, did not matter. It was her performances on the screen. The studied motions of a housewife, a slum-dweller. The sudden change of pace and the glamour that she could bring to a role. In ten short years she played role. In ten short years she played the whole range of them. She acted free, out of commitiment, for money, she was an artistic and commercial success. When I thought of her I always felt happy for her father, Shivajicao Patil, once of the few Maharashtra ministers whom I liked and admired.
I last saw her at the Navjot of Cine Blitz's Rita Mehta's daughter. She was expecting then and you could see she was glowing with new life within her.
Perhaps, it is in the nature of things that as new life is born, the old is taken away. But sometimes it happens so sudden and it is so unfair.

Kiran it is good until it is just ON you and not IN you. The later will make you change your name to something else.
Profainity not allowed directly and indirectly both :)
Line and Length maintain karna Indians ke khoon mein hi nahi lagta hai :-D.This is best example.
Excuse me Gentlemen This was an interesting thread dedicated to Smita patil.
LOL :)
Smita patil did one(I m not sure if she did any other apart from this)drama which the Marathi unit of Indian National theater(INT) had produced called "Chinna".“Chhinna” was written by Waman Tawde and directed by Sadashiv Amrapurkar, with the caste of the play being Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Ashalata Wabgaonkar and Smita Patil.

Discussing Mu&^% in an article about Smita Patil.
Maintain the sanctity of the post guys.
Behram Contractor has put it perfectly...
She acted free, out of commitiment, for money, she was an artistic and commercial success.
That explains the selection of the movies post 1984.
She was certainly one of the if not 'the' finest actresses ever
And she always showed a lot of grace and dignity in real life too.
I feel that her awesome talent was best utilised in marathi movies
