The violence in the city indirectly claimed the life of a kindergarten student in Borivli. Pratham Jain (5), who was dropped home early after his school shut for the day anticipating trouble in the wake of MNS leader Raj Thackeray's arrest, was killed in a hit-and-run mishap outside his building premises.
Pratham, an only child, lived with his parents on the fifth-floor of Akash Ganga building at Gorai. His father, Nilesh Jain, is employed with a Marathi daily.
Pratham was enrolled in junior KG in Swami Vivekanand school.
According to neighbours, Pratham's mother dropped him at the building gates around 1 pm, where a private van picked him up for school. The little boy would return around 5 pm, when his mother once again waited at the building gates to take him home.
On Wednesday, however, the school was declared shut since the management was anticipating trouble in the city. Pratham and his schoolmates didn't need to alight from the van at all since the school was shut, and were ferried back home in the same vehicle around 1.30 pm. The van driver dropped Pratham at the entrance of his building and left.
Half an hour later residents spotted him lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries. His mother was informed and she rushed downstairs and carried the child to the Mangalmoorti hospital nearby, where doctors declared him dead.
The Borivli police conducted a panchnama on the spot and took the body to the Borivli post-mortem centre where forensic experts said that severe head injuries had caused the boy's death.

(Poems by Gulzar ,translated from Original Urdu into English by Salim Arif)
1-
No miracle took place that night
Those who were there in worship homes
Had prayer on their lips
Faith illuminated their eyes
It was the Home of Gods (they thought)
Quakes cant shatter them,
Fire cannot burn
Sermons of miracle they had heard
Appeals were offered in various names
But no sound came from heavenly Abode,
Not of God, nor of police
All, were roasted in fire and ashamed
No miracle happened that night.
2-
Miracles do happen We were told !
But, when it mattered,
No flowers emerged from fires,Nor did a river erupt from the Land-
The sea never threw a cover
No boat came down from heavens
Last night our Gods were on trial
Their homes got burnt last Night
3-
How silent is the death of some people
Graved in cold dark coffins of their own bodies
No sound of breath
No sobs, no sighs
No move, no wail
So silent is the death of some people
They save you botheration of the burial
4-
He did not choose his religion
He inherited it from his parents
Could he have chosen his parentage?
It was thrust on him as was this Nation
The home of his family
It was not his choice either
He was only nine
Why did they chose him to be butchered in communal riots last night?
5-
No one was killed in the city,
They were only names, Murderer¦
None were beheaded
They were mere caps with heads inside
And this blood stream on the streets
Drips from the voices slaughtered.

Very touchy....this is what i always feel when i read Gulzar Saab's poems
Dard kuchh der hi rehta hai,
bahot der nahi
Jis tarah shakh se tode huye ek patte ka rang
mand pad jata hai
kuchh roz alag shakh se rehkar
Shakh se tutkar ye dard jiyega kab tak
khatm ho jayegi jab iski rasad
timtimayega zara der ko bujhte bujhte
aur phir lambi si ek saans dhuye ki lekar
khatm ho jayega ye dard bhi
bujh jayega
Dard kuchh der tak hi rehta hai, bahot der tak nahin....

Awesome... and vintage Gulzar as usual.
I personally went through a very bad moment when i first heard this news
I live in borivali. My 5-year old nephew has a school bus-mate called Pratham who is of the same age (5 yrs). My nephew claims they are 'bestest' friends.
So when i heard the name in the news I panicked big time. Then about 15 second later i read the school name as 'Swami Vivekanand' and my panic went away. It is a different school to my nephews school. So it could not have been the same kid.
But later on the news came back to disturb me the rest of the day. Raj, abu, amar, politics and all that shit went out of the window for the time....
Thanks Punch & Limin for the words of Gulzar
How thankful we should be that sometimes when our own words fail us, those of others give us solace we so desperately seek
However limin i fear that the dard of the kids mother (or even his father) will not go away no matter how much time passes. I hope, for his parents sake, that time proves me wrong..
