The tiger that killed four of the six people it attacked around the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district was shot dead by the police near Mangrul village Friday.
The tiger was shot while it was feasting on a bullock it had killed Thursday in the village, about 150 km from Nagpur, bringing to an end a month-long operation to trap and release the wild cat back into the forest.
On Wednesday, the tiger killed a 19-year old youth, Hemraj Nikode, when he was plucking green-peas in his farm in Ohala village near the reserve.
Following the incident, the angry villagers set ablaze the forest range office and demanded immediate compensation and an end to the tiger menace.

It is now said that the alleged man-eater was actually a TIGRESS while the guards pumped bullets into a tiger. They are defending themselves saying that it was a gender mix-up owing to distorted footprints.
This is apalling, especially when the tiger population in India has slipped BELOW 1700!! (For Maharashtra, the decline has been from 238 to 103.) (From the last estimate in 2001-2002, till date)
Is it just a cover-up to save the officials' skin? The officials allegedly skinned the slain tiger in full public view to boast their 'trophy'! :(
