The first day of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link passed off smoothly, except for the fact that the sea link was tested to its full strength by residents of the city, who were looking forward to cruise along this newly opened one of its kind sea link.

People from not just Bandra and Worli, but other parts of the city decided to use the bridge, causing traffic snarls for hours at a stretch.

“I don’t think I will use the sea link frequently, but I wanted to drive on it,” exclaimed Manish Malhotra, a resident of Matunga. Said Sheetal Gala, a resident of Bandra, “I did not expect that it would take us so long to cross the sea link. However, I think once the toll starts things will change and it will indeed take us less than 8 minutes to cross the sea link.”

Since it was the first day and there was no toll, as announced by the Chief Minister, many people decided to ply on this route. A traffic police constable posted near the bridge stated that the curiosity among people led to commuters flocking at the sea link, thereby causing incessant jams. “Also, the fact that there would be no toll for the first few days led more and more to try the sea link. Once the toll starts I don’t think there would be any problems,” said the constable.
