Residents of the island city, who use more than 300 units of electricity per month, will face the heat this summer thanks to BEST, which has decided to charge Rs 2.50 for every unit over and above 300 units consumed.
The existing rate is Rs 1.57 and the new tariff will be effective from May 1. The BEST, which distributes power in south Mumbai, caters to over 9 lakh consumers.
S A Puranik, BEST’s deputy general manager, said the new measure is intended to control excessive use of electricity.

1.57 to 2.50, even if they make it 3.50 nobody will bother, because everybody is too busy in mumbai. And they know that.
