The southwest monsoon has officially arrived in Mumbai. The Indian Meteorological Department made the declaration at 8.30 am after recording the monsoon’s advance. The currents have now covered the coastal belt and reached as far as Saurashtra.
It’s the first time in 50 years that the season has arrived so late. In 1959, the rains hit Mumbai on June 25.
The monsoon did not, however, hit Mumbai with a bang because of several atypical wind factors.
