Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has asked the civic authorities to strictly implement the anti-encroachment laws so that a strong signal is sent to those constructing illegal structures on public amenities that are meant for the taxpayers.

"People from all over the country are welcome to come and live here, but nobody has a right to construct hutments on the city's water pipelines, footpaths and government land—all meant for the use of the taxpayer," Deshmukh said after laying the foundation stone for the Brimstowad work in Chembur.
