Investigation of the properties of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli has revealed that he has three imported pedigree dogs - a St Bernard and two German Shepherds - and at least 10 expensive cows, all housed in his den, Dagdi chawl.
Depending on breed and training, a St Bernard can cost anything between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, and German Shepherds can be bought for around Rs 10-15,000 each. Sources say Gawli spends at least Rs 10,000 on each dog per month. The maintenance cost of the cows too runs into thousands of rupees.
The doghouse, built as a shelter for the prize canines, has a fan running 24 hours to help the dogs beat the heat. The well-decorated doghouse is kept clean and dogs provided for by men specially deputed for the purpose.
