Pramod Navalkar was the face of sena among the non maharashtrians, not that he was less famous among the marathi population.Being a well knowm columnist, his marathi & english writings were read widely. He was a firm believer in preserving Indian culture from the western influences.Social welfare work like creating a Nana Nani park were some of the contributions to the society. Its a big loss to Sena, it has lost one more of its distinct identities.

Yes Pramod Navalkar had a cross community appeal. One thing that appealed personaly to me about him was that he was a firm believer of his beliefs and could rationally argue over an issue, rather than resorting to strong arm tactics which a lot of Sena men resort to and which cannot be denied by anyone who has monitored the functioning of the Sena.
His loss is truly a loss to Sena, Mumbai and Maharashtra !

I am not really a fan of the Sena but i admired Pramod Navalkar very much.
He was that rare 'Sainik' who truly believed that 'The pen is mightier than the sword'.
A cultured person, he always believed in personally setting examples before asking (or ordering) others to follow them.
I think that was one of the many reasons why he was liked by the common man (Marathi and others).
Personally I liked him for another reason too. Unlike most other Sena leaders he didn't push his relatives (his daughter or his nephew/niece or others) using his influence.
This rare ethic is in stark contrast to other Sena leaders including Bal Thackeray, Manohar Joshi, Narayan Rane ...
He maintained his dignity and beliefs in his principles right till the end.
It is a huge loss the unique 'Girgaum' culture... some thing similar to the loss felt by all maharashtrians when P L Deshpande passed away.
He might have passed away but his writings and works remain for future generations of Mumbaikars. And it is a measure of his worth that it will not require corporators to pass proposals in assembly to name roads after him. His name will always be automatically associated with Nana-Nani parks.
May his soul rest in peace.
