Mumbai: A 26-year-old man, who came to the city all the way from Bihar to appear for the railway test, died in a train accident while he was on his way to the exam centre. The incident occurred at Andheri station on Sunday morning.
The police said Pawan Kumar, a resident of Nalanda in Bihar, had come to the city on Saturday to take the exam so that he could get a job as a train guard. He was staying with family friends in Trombay and his centre was in Bhayander.
To reach the centre, Pawan first went to Dadar and from there, to Andheri to catch a train for Bhayander. The accident occurred around 7.30 am, when he was trying to get inside a Virar local and fell on the tracks. Pawan was severely injured on his legs and head, the police said.
Pawan was taken to Cooper Hospital where he was admitted to the surgical intensive care unit but he died while under treatment, the police added.
An officer from the Andheri railway police said Pawan’s death appeared to be a case of accident.
According to his relative in the city, Shailendra Prasad, Pawan Kumar had been preparing for the test for a long time. “All the family savings had got wiped out in the recent floods in Bihar, and they were in a financial crisis,’’ Shailendra said. “As a result, it was all the more important for Pawan to get the job.’’ Pawan’s father, Jagdish Prasad, is a smalltime farmer.
Incidentally, Shailendra said, it was Pawan’s first visit to the city. “There was no reason for him to be under any kind of stress and we do not even suspect any foul play,’’ he said. Pawan was supposed to leave for his hometown on Sunday after taking the test.
Only Rs 190 was found in Pawan’s pocket when he was rescued from the tracks. “His family WAS so poor that he did not even have the money for a train ticket to Mumbai—he got hold of a free pass from a friend,’’ Shailendra said.
Pawan’s family was yet to recover from the shock and his father could not even come to the city to claim his son’s body. He sent a fax to the Andheri railway police, in which he authorised Shailendra to conduct Pawan’s last rites.
Thanks & Regards.

Its ironic that a railway examinee from bihar died because he could not handle the crowd in train. Perhaps natures way of saying, theres too much crowd.. cant handle more.

Apparently the news has been taken off by rediff. This is ridiculous. They are nothing but sensationalising things. This is pretty much what has been done by the media.

Raj Thackeray produced in court
I was about to change the title, but it seems punch has already changed it :)
tbanker thanks for pointing this out and punch thanks for adding the news.
REDIFF quality is like aaj tak and star news, and the worst part is comment on rediff .. they are useless.
Now I am not sure which news is right. CNN-IBN has carried it, http://www.ibnlive.com/news/mns-rampage-victim-dies-bihar-cm-is-livid/76372-3.html
Hopefully we will know what happened for sure in a day or two.
Could have fallen under train while running, after being pushed, or by accident. Anything is possible.
Last time MNS guys had killed a Maharashtrian in stone-pelting. Protests mean some people die. Its normal in India.
he was surely died in accident but bhaiyas looking for such opportunities to keep Raj in troubles
