As soon as I slowed down, without even bothering to find out who I was, two of the men flung large stones and my windscreen, while a third man smashed the rear screen. But it was the fourth man who left me terrified when he hurled a burning tyre at me. Stunned at seeing the violence so frighteningly close, I revved up the engine and sped away before my car was burned to ash with me inside.

1. Mr lokhande is saying they attacked me without even asking me, so he is ok with the whole beating up theory.
2. He is editor of mumbai mirror, so he will definately described the whole thing in "Aaj tak" style.
3. I won't bother if editor of mumbai mirror get beaten up slighly on such occassions considering their participation in aggreavating the tension.

@kiran @ getting beaten up slightly!!
You could be in that position some day, regardless of wheather you work for media or not. AS for as I know MNS runs in a very Mafia style, doling out instant justice. Before they picked up this outsiders issue, they were (in cohorts with Shiv sena) beating up schools teachers, blackening faces of doctors and beating lovers in park.
You see future in that?

deepak lokhande has been described to me as a true-blue Maharashtrian.
Nobody who has faced a little bit of true violence will become a supporter to the cause of Maharashtrians.
If any of us end up in the same situation, you think we would support MNS afterwards? I personally know what if me or anyone I know face any violence (even minor) for any reason, I will make it my life's mission to see that they are totally defeated in every way.
I don't care about the congress at all - but if I see any violence from MNS or Sena o even congress, in 24 hours, i would become a 100 % congress activist!
And i suspect, most of us with some self respect would react the same way.
We can support 10 % violence, 20 % violence etc only as long as it doesnt affect us. The moment it touches us, we go to the opposite side.
@asthipanjar I agree. Only when you become a victim to random violence, you realise how soul shattering it can be. As Lokamat editor , very much a Maharashtrian , who was all but killed by a mob in his house just because he had written an article about Shivaji Maharaj's statue.
Those who tacitly support goondagardi, dont understand that one day they might alos be victim to it.

The only real solution is to have more cities like Mumbai. Delhi is growing like anything, and people are already complaining about immigrants adding to the mess. Has it affected influx into Mumbai in the last year? There is a chance that it may have reduced slightly - delhi is closer to UP and bihar.
Bangalore is very small compared to Mumbai - and I can see trouble starting there already. Kannadigas have to move to suburbs as city is getting more expensive for them.
10 cities like mumbai, and the problem will be small.
Nothing else will work.

@asthipanjar Agreed. We need more cities. Isn't it shame that 5000 yrs ago(or so) we had well designed cities in Harappa civilization. Look at our cities now.
We also need to become less emotional and regional when it comes to cities. We need to be pragmatic. Cities are primarily hub of migrants (from villages) who come there because of increased economic activity concentrated in a relatively smaller area of city.
Very often we Indians react so emotionally that we brush aside the real issue which could be solved through planning. Look at Bangalore. It was a small town until software changed it forever. Now it is crumbling just because leaders do not have vision to make it into a international city , a true silicon valley of India
In case of Mumbai, what we forget is that people come to Mumbai thinking not that they are going to Maharashtra but Mumbai. Mumbai stands on its own. I know many maharshtrians will react to that , but it is an undeniable fact. It is only now that a wedge has been created so strongly in people's mind about Mumbai being a Marathi city and being raided by outsiders. Cities like Mumbai have to be seen separately and not through parochial and regional eye.
Why can't Mumbai be just the way it is and become an international financial capital!! A Marathi manoos is global CEO of Citigroup and is in NY. Would he have done that ,if NY had reservation for locals in NY??
We should stop acting like emotional fools and stop beating each other. Many western news papers over past few weeks have covered what has been happening in Mumbai and it is so sad to read all that.
I would say India is going through a very bad patch. There are bomb blasts. Muslims and now Hindus are being caught as terrorists. Tribals are becoming naxals and Christians are being murdered in Orissa. The last thing we would have needed was de-generation of Mumbai into a provincial town, or escalation to a regional riot.
This country needs a social renaissance of sort...otherwise....thee is little hope

very well said .... but don't we all know that politics has little to do with the reality on the ground not only in india but across the world. so seeking logic in polity would be a very foolish idea.
As for revoulutions , most of them did have a violent history ....so this revolutionary stand on the insider outsider theory will never work beyond the municipal limits of the city and lets not make it even an issue of debate in context to India and and its future. Raj thakre though has all the makings of a charihmatic leader has limited himself to mumbai which i see as a very easy goal. To counter his allegation of outsiders taking away all jobs from the maharashtrians is kind of far fetched when it comes to the jobs in state govt. Talking about the Centrak govt. jobs yes though being a north indian born and brought up in maharashtra i do feel that the jobs In Postal dept , Telecom Dept and Excise & Customs should have some reservation for the local population be it mumbai , chennai , calcutta , hyderabad etc.
i do get worried when i see a Bhaiya coming in to fix my MTNL telephone line , or a bhaiya accepting my telephone bill at the Electricity board counter....the reason of my worry comes from the fact that these guys by nature believe in breaking & exploiting the rules from the book......Look at the Electricity Boards , The education Boards , and the Industrial growth in thir own state .... they have messed it up royaly ....anybody having any doubts on the facts needs to travel to these states and see for themselves . The local population in theses states rob their own state in every possible manner you can think of.
As i said that am born in maharashtra i love this state for being the best in the country .....and i would much appreciate if it stays that way and improves upon its resources than go down due to any kind of apathy.
So i strongly advocate the cause raised by Mr. Raj Thakre but would not like to take it to the steets in a violent form .....I would rather have peaceful protests ......by the way if you see the pictures of the street violence and the guys who were actually creating rukus ....i don't see any of them competent enough for the rly jobs but for any jobs anywhere...so what are we
