The MNS has sent letters to the police, alleging that the vendors gather information from residential buildings while hawking fruit and provide the information to criminals. They also allege that they are stealing business from Maharashtrian hawkers.
In Panvel alone, there are more than 12 big wholesale outlets owned by north Indians as compared to five owned by Maharashtrians.

All hawkers, irrespective of their origin, live in slums or extremely poor areas of the city.
In the slums and poor areas, there is always a very high concentration of criminals and thieves.
So it is natural that vendors (mango or fruit or egg) are well known to many criminals, and may share information with them.
I was talking to some journalists who are in touch with the top police officials. What the cops unofficially say is this:
highest number of crimes in Mumbai are committed by:
Rank 1 - people from 2 districts of UP where crime is very high.
Rank 2 - Maharashtrians in positions of power (cops and officials) as well as ultra-poor and very rich Maharashtrians.
(Almost everything big in Mumbai is owned by outsiders or north Indians, even the mango outlets. The mango millionnaire is hardly involved in any crime!)
