Thousands fled to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from Nasik and Pune leaving behind their jobs, dwellings and it resulted in affecting number of smaller industrial units that engaged cheap labour.
The reports indicate that about 24 lakhs people migrated to Maharashtra and Mumbai from other parts of the country during 1991-2008 period in all including Nasik, Pune and Nagapur out of which the number of labour sections stood to be around 7.29 lakhs. These cities stand for industrial hubs and expansive service sector.
