With elections nearing, the state cabinet on Thursday cleared a proposal for giving houses at nominal cost to people living below poverty line. This scheme will be implemented in all districts apart from Mumbai city and its suburbs.
According to this scheme, 2.45 lakh families will benefit each year for the next three years. The government is expected to spend around Rs 70,000 per household. Of these houses, 21,000 will be constructed by housing department and the rural development department will build 1,24,000 houses.
