Starting today, don’t be surprised if you hail an autorickshaw and the driver turns out to be a woman. For, beginning Monday, 15 women who successfully completed their training as auto drivers may hit the city’s streets.
The women, most of them from lower-middle class Maharashtrian families, trained at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Andheri. And, all of them sailed through their driving tests.

Read the article carefully - 'most of them from lower-middle class Maharashtrian families' (the RTO is making sure that they dont cross MNS the wrong way)
so i am guessing it will be "mavshi", "kaku", ... :-)
On a side note, will the richshawallis also tamper with the meter as commonly as the rickshawallas do ?

Well the inspiration is again films.so even if we call it filmy it would be just OK.Basanti is a well known example which dates back to sholay.Nisha Kothari played Ghungroo rickshawaali, but i guess nobody knows it other than ramgopal varma as nobody dared to see the film.In The latest movie Bachna Ae haseeno, Deepika padukone plays a Cab Driver in Sydney providing the necessary glamour to the biz.
Now to the reality part.Their intention is noble, which is to support household costs which have spiralled due to inflation. Now if the housewives decide to take this up it would only help the families who have a lone earning member.
Just makes me think of the scenarios on the road post this change.I believe the females would abide to the traffic rules more than men.But there could be a ocassions when we might reach totally different places other than what we were supposed too. Also if the rickshawaalis start gossipping in the middle of the road, a traffic jam is bound to happen!! what are the other scenarios do u think may happen?

It's a good step by this womens, but at the same time it's too risky.
Kyu Risky Boss..? Agar Basanti ladaki hokar Tanga chala sakti hai...to koi Rikshaw kyu nahi?
