Once upon a time in Mumbai, people threw gala parties. Their guests were known to deck up and flit across town from one shindig to another, magically changing ensembles on the way. DJs were demi-gods and the social circuit was forever buzzing with excitement. Then came in the dreadful deadlines and several other restrictions and ever since, Mumbai, the most happening city in India, seems to have lost its joie de vivre.

Famed party animal Kishen Mulchandani, whose nighttime turf runs beyond the ends of the city says, “Delhi has completely taken over as India’s party hub.” Mumbai has lost its nighttime charm, he believes, as people have begun taking things too seriously here.

He recounts the last worthy event in Mumbai: “A few weeks back I attended the Sex and the City party, when we realised that there was no media present; we really let our inhibitions go and completely enjoyed ourselves.”
