Rahul Dravid reminded the national selectors of his immense value with a double century that ensured Karnataka an honourable draw and a point against holders Mumbai in their Elite Division Group A Ranji Trophy in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The former India skipper, dropped for the first two One-Day Internationals against Pakistan in the ongoing rubber, was determination personified as he scored 214 after a stay of 437 minutes in Karnakata's second innings score of 397 for 6 declared.
Mumbai were thus set a target of 256 for an outright victory.
Set to bat for 32 overs, the scored 70 for two wickets in 17 overs before play was called off by mutual consent.

I dont get this idea of having a 4 day match thing. This one extra day would have been so crucial to understand which team was the best.A very young Mumbai team did very well in restricting karnataka who had dravid and kumble in the ranks.Dravid played superbly.. but i think the credit here goes to the young mumbai team who played well in the first innings and got the deserving 2 bonus points.
I always wonder how come mumbai produce most and best of the cricketers despite of mumbai being so crowded, there is hardly any space to play cricket. Playgrouds are taken up by builders for building parking lots, shopping malls and 234 other state of art things. There are 10 teams playing at any point of time in shivaji park all you have is your own pitch rest is all shared unlike south or north where yuvraj singh has his own ground in his backyard. Can somebody throw some light here.

I think everything in mumbai is a struggle.Right from the time you get up till you get back to sleep you have to be at your enthusiastic best.Even to play..you have to struggle.Imagine our aspiring cricketers travelling in the heart of the city with thier monsterous kit bags,spending thier time in the shivaki park fighting for a picth,then concentrate on the match from multiple matches which are played there..really requires something extra to make a cricketer out of you.
Thats what is reflected in the cricket.Mumbai may not have very stylish players right now..they certainly make themselves count when required.
Guys i feel we are playing match in shivaji park, where approx 10 teams playing at time but we are taking catch of somebody else's team. We are concentrating on different team.
Our topic is, Rahul Dravid hits 214 in ranji, and not, why mumbai producing best players.
Dravid is anytime great player of Test Match. Nobody in the world doubt about his tallent except Indian Selectors.
Dravid is one of the best cricketer in the world. He will return soon in team India. Once he was dropped that he is test player but he come back with name "Indian Wall". Even he scored fastest ODI 50 for India. He hit 5 sixes in his 214
we never see it from dravid it is his anger. Now he is dropped for not scoring run I m sure when he will return he will not give chance to drop for same reason. He is the player who speak less with mouth more with bat.
Problem is team india is not giving him the right position to bat in the one dayers.Dravid is not a slogger.Even if he scores fast he will do it with proper cricketing shots.He has to bat in the no 3 slot which is ideally suited for him.Indian team gets away with makeshift no 3's in the sub continent pitches.Australia will be different..and dravids technique would be required there.
