Irked by the "step-motherly treatment" meted out to the Indian hockey team by the central and four state governments, when compared to the sops given to cricketers after their triumph in the Twenty20 World Cup, the team members have decided to go on a 'hunger strike'.
National chief coach Joaquim Carvalho strongly objected to the announcement of cash awards by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and the state governments of Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Karnataka to the cricketers while ignoring the victory of his wards in the Asian Continental Championship early this month.
"Why are our hockey players orphaned? Why are our politicians biased towards hockey, the national game?"

Pavwaala, here is your chance to show your support to the hockey team you love so much !
The hockey team is going on hunger strike, you go on a booze strike.
So do not attend the booze party at Sai Palace (or whereever) !!!
I guess most of us are spectator at least till now .. i can support pillay but i cannot go on strike with him.
Same way i can criticise media hype prize money's for cricket but i cannot stop watching the game. I loved the game even when kapil use to do only palmolive ad.
On the other hand i would definately like to discuss hockey more in detail (technically) .. iam of a opinion if you understand the game in detail u can enjoy the competition.
I AM NOT SAYING TO STOP WATCHING CRICKET.. BUT THERE HAS TO BE A BALANCE ... CRICKET IS NOT THE ONLY SPORT IN THE WORLD ... Kiran, thats precisely what the Indian Hockey needs ...... spectators!!! The moment more people start watching hockey, the media will start taking interest in this sport, and probably the govt. too.

We won the Asia cup couple of weeks before. Specific Features of this victory
* We did not lose a single match.
* We defeated the strongest team South Korea twice in the tournament – League and Final.
* We defeated South Korea In the final by 7-2 which is one of the huge margins in finals.
* We scored totally 56 goals and given away just 5 goals in the 7 matches that we played.
* We scored 20 goals in a single match against Sri Lanka and not even given away a single goal. This equaled the highest margin of
victory in Asia cup record.
* We remained the lone team to maintain our slate clean (Rare all-win record at pool stage) among 11 teams and topped the tough
six-team Pool B.
Rewards for this victory
* Individual greeting message by Our Honorable President.
* For the news channels and papers, it’s just news.
* IHF had announced an incentive for the team where they would receive Rs 1000 for every goal scored and lose Rs 2000 for every goal
conceded.
* The state governments not even sent a congratulation note.

But I guess atleast we are discussing hockey today which even was not a case before.Should I say thanks to the Movie "chak de"? We need few more efforts from Media,govt,
sponsors,apna bollywood world to promote not only hockey but other sports too.
Why only dhanraj pillai or few people related to hockey I personally feel these celebrity sportsman like our cricketers,few tennis stars like sania mirza etc. should take an initiative to help in this cause.Bcoz they are public heros,icons today whatever they say,do becomes "Brand". Along with chai,haircut ,hair cream,cold drinks why not hockey or any other sport? Today its all about Showbiz.Tennis player or cricketer at the end of the day they are sportsmen.Its not abt cricket or hockey or tennis its abt future of sports in our country.
But as you said you received this in a mail it shows that atleast people are talking abt it now.Movie been made on it.Even though these seems small baby step I am sure this will help in long run :)
Media is king today, if they decide to promote hockey they sure can and make it equally famous if not more then cricket.
But its sad, that big giants like OnM today are worried about repositioning senior cricket brands like sachin and dravid because they want to create space for yuvraj and dhoni.
Talking about Chak de... i found the movie ok .. but i was very upset at the end of the movie, because i was looking for dhanraj pilley's name somewhere .. it appeared somewhere in the list of 50's very hard to notice.
Even special thanks section would have felt better, but they just ignore it. By the way all girls in chak de are trained by dhanraj pilley, rajpal sing and team.
If the public agrees that they will watch hockey ..... then maybe the media will start showing more of hockey.
The other day this reporter on NDTV said the foll line which i found to be so true.
"The title song from latest hit movie CHAKK DE which was about hockey, ironically today symbolizes India's victory in cricket."
This is one tactic that media,television uses to khapau their bullshit programmes saying that we show this bcoz people wants to see it.
But its was never abt what public wants to see. Public never asked for shows like kaal kripal,shani maharaj and that stupid kundali,numerology and horoscope shows on News Channel.Nobody is interested in whts happening in Rakhi sawant life.
But Its media who made an item girl like Rakhi Sawant a celebrity.Who played CHAKK DE while showcasing Cricket matches MEDIA.I agree with kiran here Today Media is King.They are in position to change ur likes,ur lifestyles etc.
Unfortunately Funaholic, the sad part is there are people who really like and watch all this. But then it is a different sect of people and probably they are in majority. Otherwise how can media show all this, if no one is watching it. There are a lot of people who want to watch Rakhi Sawant ...... obviously for all the wrong reasons and thats where media scores.
