As a choice between his job as a commentator and columnist and that of the chairman of the cricket committee, gavaskar has put down his papers as ICC chairman. Sunil gavaskar with his resignation to ICC sent a very clear message of how important the freedom of expression is to him.
All this has started on backdrop of his comments on various ocassion which to the indian cricket world were fair comments.
1. Mike proctor - Procter preferred to agree with white player version than a player of Tendulkars integrity during the racial row in australia
2. referred icc member countries like england as australia as dinosaurs
3. especially his comments against australian players like pointing and clarke and also few english players.
Please add if you know more, so in essence ICC didn't like his straight forward remarks, which were true almost on all ocassions.

Gavaskar should have done this when he was in australia itself. Maybe he was waiting for mike proctor getting sacked.
he has played a calculating shot like the smart man he is. free economics has as much part in it as free expression
I think next news would be sharad pawar appointed as chairman of ICC or maybe sharad pawar buying ICC :)
