The Lalbaug mandal that organises the city’s biggest Ganeshotsav pandal has used Rs 25 lakh collected as donations during last year’s festival to set up a free library. It will be located in two rooms provided by the BMC at Peru Chawl near Lalbaug market. Named after Swatantraveer Savarkar, it will be inaugurated on Sunday.

The organisers of city’s most famous Ganapati — Lalbaugcha Raja —will spend about Rs 3 crore during the 10-day festival.
The organisers, however, are not bothered about the expenses, as they earn three times the total amount spent. read more »
