Alarmed by the soaring drop-out rate among the girl students in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools - every year a whopping 12,000 of them opt out of studies - the civic body has decided to give every girl child Re 1 for each day of their attendance. The scheme will be launched from April 1 for the 1177 BMC-run schools in Mumbai.
