महाराणा प्रताप अत्यंत सुविद्य, सुसंस्कृत आणि श्रद्धावान होता. त्याने संस्कृत भाषेला पुष्कळ उत्तेजन दिले. त्याच्या काळात निर्माण झालेल्या ग्रंथांची हस्तलिखिते आजही उपलब्ध आहेत. मेवाडी चित्रकलेने प्रतापच्या कारकिर्दीतच झेप घेतली. राजधानी चावंडमधील चित्रांतून याची साक्ष मिळते. प्रतापने श्रीमद्भागवत या पुराणग्रंथातील काही प्रसंगांवर आधारित, तयार करवून घेतलेली काही चित्रे उपलब्ध आहेत. ही चित्रे सिलहाउ

चितोड म्हणजे महाराणा प्रतापच्या लेखी मेवाडचा मानबिंदू होता. वयाच्या सत्तवीसाव्या वर्षी त्याने चितोड सोडले. त्यानंतर त्याला पुन्हा चितोडचे दर्शन झाले नाही. हा सल त्या काळजात देहान्तापर्यंत सलत राहिला होता. मृत्युशय्येवर असताना त्याने आपल्या प्रमुख सरदारांना जवळ बोलावले आणि सांगितले, ' माझे प्राण देह सोडून जात नाहीत. तुमच्या मुखातून चितोड पुन्हा स्वतंत्र करू ' असे शब्द ऐकण्यासाठी ते अडकले आहेत.
